This term our guided reading text is 'Secrets of a Sun King' by Emma Carroll. The children are really enjoying this text and it has some wonderful Egyptian themed writing opportunities for the children to explore. In our English lessons next week, the children will take on the role of Howard Carter and write a diary entry detailing his discovery of King Tutankhamun’s tomb.
This week I have set the children a reading task that focuses on the life of Howard Carter. Some children may benefit from a paired reading strategy to access this text, where an adult reads part and the child reads part. There is a comprehension task to complete.
The document is split into different levels:
1 star = Mild
2 stars = Hot
3 stars = Chilli
The answers are also included for the challenge level that your child has selected.
Spelling focus: Adding the prefix 'il' (before a root word starting with 'l') and the prefix 'ir' (before a root word starting with 'r').
