Year 5 mixed Rounders Tournament - Summer 2

🌟 Year 5 Rounders Festival – Fun, Teamwork and True Sportsmanship 🌟

On a scorching hot day, with very warm astro turf beneath their feet, 15 enthusiastic Year 5 children took to the field to represent the school in a rounders festival against other local schools. Four games were played in total, and the children brought energy, determination and plenty of smiles.

It was a steady start in the heat, but as the games went on—and as they reminded themselves of the rules—the team really began to shine. Their confidence grew, their smiles widened, and that brilliant competitive spirit came alive.

With constant encouragement, cheers for every well‑hit ball, and celebrations for super catches and quick stumpings, the team’s momentum built. They drew one match and then won their final game, which led to huge hugs, excitement and even a few clever tactics being put into play.

The aim of the event was simple: to give the children the chance to enjoy rounders, play against other schools, and have fun. No placings were awarded, but what they showed mattered far more—enthusiasm, teamwork and fantastic sportsmanship.

A big thank you to Mrs Evans for coming along to support the team.
Well done, Year 5 - you were brilliant!

    Year 6 Girls football v Swanbourne - Summer 2

Year 6 Girls football v Swanbourne

Our Year 6 girls took to the pitch for the last time for a celebratory match to round off their time representing Whitchurch School. They were full of excitement and smiles to show exactly how far they have all come over the last couple of years and what they have achieved.

Swanbourne took the lead through a super solo run by one of their girls but Whitchurch soon found their stride to equalise. The second half saw us really coming into our own with two goals from Mollie and and one from Jessie following a beautiful, accurate through ball by Bella. Everyone gave their all with plenty of attacking play and strong defending.

The final score was 4-1 to Whitchurch rounding off a fabulous season for them all. I was super pleased for them all after their hard work. You all make me extremely proud. Thank you too to all the parents for their support and logistical transport throughout the season. Go Kites 😊⚽

Year 5 & 6 Dynamoes Cricket at Cublington CC

A mixed group of Year 5/6 children took to the field for another day of Dynamoes Cricket, playing matches against other schools.

It was a nervous, wet and cold start as most haven't played much cricket before against schools with more experience. As the games went on and the sun came out they found their stride leading too two wins. The sheer joy on their faces as they ran towards me for the second unexpected win was purely magical.

Super well done to all of you for your commitment and resilience throughout the day. Some fun was also had with poms poms as they watched the final!!

A huge thank you to the Sports Leaders for making the day so enjoyable and inspiring for everyone involved. 👏😊

To top off a brilliant trip, the journey home took an unexpected turn when a herd of cows decided to block the road and the teachers had to get out to try and move them! 🐄🚜 This caused plenty of excitement and laughter, and it certainly gave us a memorable ending to a wonderful day. 😄

Well done, Year 2 – you represented the school brilliantly and should be very proud of yourselves! ⭐

They were fully engaged, participating in activities such as balancing tennis balls on rackets and weaving through cones as well as using rebounders and trying to keep rallies going for as long as possible to gain as many points as they could to great shouts of joy.

Year 6 Girls Dynamos Cricket Competition - Summer 2

A fantastic day in the sunshine saw nine of our Year 6 girls take to the field full of smiles, enthusiasm, and a touch of understandable nerves, as they were all new to cricket and playing against other schools for the first time.

Despite this, the team showed incredible determination and quickly found their confidence. Their batting was a real highlight, with some superb shots sending the ball flying to the boundary for numerous fours. Alongside this, there was clever and energetic running between the wickets to ensure they picked up those all-important extra runs.

On the field, the girls were just as impressive. A couple of well-taken catches and an excellent stumping brought great excitement and delight to the team, showing their increasing skills and team work. The hard work and practice they put into their bowling also paid off with many a dot ball.

Throughout the matches, the energy and commitment of the girls was a delight to see. It was a wonderful team effort and a great experience for all involved within a very friendly atmosphere.

A day of learning, achievement and enjoyment in the sun. It was lovely to spend the day with you girls, and I am so proud of all of you.  Keep playing!

    A Year 6 pupil said...

'On the 5th June, nine Year 6 girls went to Dinton Cricket Club to participate in a school cricket competition.  Even though it was a boiling hot day, we played our best. We entered the pitch with a beaming smile and lifted our chins up even if it didn't go our way. Considering none of us had ever had proper experience, we played amazingly and were very proud of ourselves. We showed sportsmanship , had fun and, most importantly, showed the Whitchurch values. A huge thank you to Mrs Spring for being a very supportive coach and for encouraging us throughout the competition.'

    Annabelle and Ottolie added...

'....Despite the fact that we didn't know anything about cricket, we tried our best and had an amazing day.

The eight schools that took part, including us, were split into two groups and each team played each other once. Out of the four matches we won one and lost another by only six runs. Overall we had a great day and learnt some new skills. Finally we would like to thank Mrs Spring for arranging the inspiring event.'

Earlier this week, Whitchurch Combined School’s Year 3 & 4 girls travelled to AVA School for a fantastic football fixture. The hard work the girls have been putting into training with Mr Hird was clear to see throughout the match, along with the huge benefit of introducing fixtures and match experience from Year 3 onwards.

The team played with great determination, teamwork, and confidence, showing excellent progress in both their skills and understanding of the game. Their positive attitude stood out just as much as their performance, with the girls remaining smiley, enthusiastic, and supportive of one another from start to finish.

Sophie said, "It was a really exciting game, and we won 5-3. Elsie scored a hat-trick and Emily and I both scored too! Harriet was in goal, and she was nominated player's player of the match by AVA school. Year 3s worked really hard too!"

Ava & Elsie, said "There were lots of different activities set up to do with sports. We spent 8 minutes at each activity and completed some tennis, rugby and football. There were some obstacle courses too and one activity where you had to move a funny-shaped ball from one side to another! Although it was a bit chilly, we warmed up quick and had lots of fun!"

We were especially proud to hear that our pupils were complimented on their enthusiasm and excellent manners throughout the day. They were wonderful ambassadors for our school! 🌟

    Well done, Year 4!

Handball Mavericks Tournament – Summer 1

Mavericks Handball Tournament – 16th April

Our dedicated Year 6 handball team took to the court with great enthusiasm as they competed in a tournament against Aylesbury Vale Academy. Although only two schools were involved, AVA brought enough players to form three teams, while Whitchurch was proudly represented by two teams.

With the sun shining, the children enjoyed an afternoon of round-robin matches, playing continuously for an hour and a half. The atmosphere was full of energy, smiles and laughter throughout.

Whitchurch put on a fantastic display of teamwork, showcasing excellent passing, movement and shooting. Across the matches, our teams achieved an impressive record, winning three games and drawing one, scoring over 40 goals in total.

One of the highlights of the event was when the two Whitchurch teams played each other. It was a closely contested match, but what stood out most was the positive attitude, sportsmanship and encouragement shown between the players on both sides.

We are incredibly proud of all the children and the progress they have made in handball. Their effort, teamwork and spirit truly reflected the best of Whitchurch.

    Well done, Whitchurch!
