There was plenty of excitement as the girls, particularly those in Year 5, looked forward to their first match of the season in a home cup tie against Swanbourne.
The Kites made a fantastic start, creating several chances in the opening minutes. Their positive play was rewarded when Elsie fired home a superb strike to give Whitchurch a deserved 1-0 lead.
Unfortunately, just six minutes into the match, two Swanbourne players were involved in an accidental collision and both sustained injuries which meant they were unable to continue. It was a real shame, as the game was shaping up to be an exciting contest played in the usual friendly and sporting manner that always exists between our two schools.
After discussion, it was agreed that it would not be fair to continue the cup match with Swanbourne reduced to six players, and the game was therefore abandoned.
Rather than seeing the afternoon end there, several of our Whitchurch players generously volunteered to play for Swanbourne so that all of the girls could continue to enjoy a game of football. A friendly match was played instead, where the score did not matter. The focus was simply on ensuring everyone still had the opportunity to play and enjoy the occasion.
We are incredibly proud of our Kites. The concern they showed for the injured players, their sportsmanship throughout the afternoon and the willingness of some players to represent the opposition was a wonderful example of how sport should be played. The girls also made a 'Get Well Soon' card to send to the injured Swanbourne players.
We send our very best wishes to both girls for a speedy recovery and extend our thoughts to the rest of the Swanbourne team and school community. Thank you also to Mr Thorp, Swanbourne's coach, for his understanding and excellent sportsmanship throughout.
The Kites now progress to Round Two of the cup, although everyone would have preferred it to have happened under happier circumstances. Nonetheless, the girls demonstrated values that matter far more than any result and were outstanding ambassadors for our school. β½ππ

The Year 6 boys have made an encouraging start to their football season, showing great determination, teamwork and resilience in their opening fixtures.
The season began with a challenging cup match against Buckingham Park School. Despite a 0-3 defeat, the boys competed with courage and never gave up, demonstrating a fantastic attitude throughout the game. Thank you to Mr Ley for refereeing the match for us.
The following week, the team bounced back brilliantly with a 2-1 victory over Swanbourne School in a closely contested league fixture. Whitchurch took the lead through a superb strike from Alessio, before Swanbourne equalised shortly before half-time. Goalkeeper Affan then made a series of vital saves to keep the scores level before some excellent team football led to the winning goal, finished confidently by Ethan L.
A big thank you to Mrs Spring for managing the team while Mr Soar took on refereeing duties.
This result marks a great start to our league campaign. The boys will face Newton Longville after half-term before returning in the spring to complete the remainder of their league fixtures.
Well done to all the players for their excellent effort, sportsmanship and teamwork. We look forward to seeing how the season progresses! β½π

A team of Year 5 and 6 children travelled to Mandeville this week to compete in a dodgeball tournament against several local schools. The children demonstrated excellent teamwork, agility and determination throughout the competition, showing great sportsmanship in every match.
While we didn't finish in first place, the team should be incredibly proud of their performance. They represented our school brilliantly, displaying fantastic skills, courage and a positive attitude from start to finish. Most importantly, they had lots of fun and enjoyed the opportunity to compete against other schools.
A special thank you to Mrs Sewter for taking the children and supporting them throughout the event. We are very grateful for her time and encouragement.
Well done to all of the children involved for their outstanding effort, enthusiasm and excellent representation of our school! ππ
Last week, 10 children from Years 5 and 6 enjoyed a fantastic morning taking part in a Padel Festival at Aylesbury Rugby Club.
Padel is a fast-growing racket sport that combines elements of tennis and squash. Played on a smaller court with solid bats and slightly different rules, it is an exciting and accessible game for players of all abilities.
Our pupils had the opportunity to play alongside children from several other local schools, developing their skills while demonstrating excellent teamwork, sportsmanship and enthusiasm throughout the event.
Ethan L said:
"It's a bit like tennis but with a different bat, and it's definitely something I would like to try again!"
The children thoroughly enjoyed the experience, and we are grateful to the Insignis School Sports Partnership for providing yet another exciting sporting opportunity for our pupils. Well done to everyone who took part! πΎπ
What a fantastic morning of sport and teamwork! The first House Games of the year, and the first for Year 3, brought plenty of excitement, energy, and smiles. Children competed enthusiastically in a round-robin of football, line ball, netball, and handball, all hoping to help their house secure victory.
There were some outstanding performances and impressive sporting skills on show throughout the morning. However, what was most heartwarming was seeing every child fully involved, especially those who may not usually consider themselves sporty. Their enthusiasm, determination, and willingness to give their best embodied the true spirit of the event.
After a closely fought competition, Hartwell narrowly beat Claydon by just a few points to claim the title of House Champions. It was a wonderful morning in the sunshine and a fantastic example of participation, teamwork, and school spirit.
The team from S4A, who organised and ran the games, were incredibly complimentary about all of the children, praising their enthusiasm, sportsmanship, excellent manners, and the positive ethos of our school community.
