Phonics

Phonics

At Whitchurch, we use Lesley Clarke's Letters and Sounds, a Dfe validated SSP Programme.

Phonics is taught daily in EYFS and KS1 using the Lesley Clarke's Letters and Sounds material. Phonic work is given appropriate priority in the teaching of beginner readers and children are taught grapheme-phoneme correspondences in a clearly defined, incremental sequence (Letters and Sounds Phases 1-6). Phonics is taught through whole class teaching, with interventions run for those children who need further support or a more individual approach.

Please see out phonics policy for further details.
